The owner of this apartment is an artist. He rendered the pencil drawing and Abel translated it into a reasonable interpretation. Compare the rendering and final photo in the first two pictures. The owner wanted an industrial looking product to match the theme of the apartment conversion from industrial (pencil factory) to residential (apartment). Hints of the original intended usage can be seen in the massive wood columns, distressed and worn at the base from years of manufacturing. Stained plywood was an obvious selection for shelving material to create a semi-industrial look. The face frame has an interesting dado, a slightly depressed center that travels seamlessly from horizontal to vertical.
